DataBuyout Editorial Team: How Our Guides Are Made

How DataBuyout's guides are researched, sourced, dated and corrected, and who publishes them.

Who publishes these guides: the DataBuyout editorial team

The publisher

DataBuyout is published by Agentic LLC. Guides on this site are written and maintained by the DataBuyout editorial team as a whole. We do not attribute articles to individual named authors, and we do not claim legal, tax or accounting credentials. Nothing on this site is legal, tax or financial advice; for your situation, talk to a licensed attorney or accountant.

How we research a page

Our source rules

  1. Start from the official source. State filing steps, forms and fees come from the Secretary of State or Division of Corporations site for that state. Federal tax steps come from IRS.gov. Software export steps come from the vendor's own help center or documentation.
  2. Record the date we read it. Every source list shows the date we read each page, and the "last updated" or "last reviewed" date the source shows, where it shows one.
  3. Prefer primary reporting for prices. Data prices are not public. We only cite amounts that a named publication reported, with the publication and date, and we label them as reported figures rather than quotes.
  4. Leave gaps visible. When we could not confirm a fact on an official page, we say so on the page rather than fill it in.

How pages are updated

Each page shows the date it was last updated. We recheck fees, forms and export steps against their sources when we update a page, and we change the page date only when the content changes. State fee schedules and vendor help pages change without notice, so always confirm a fee on the official page before you file.

How DataBuyout makes money

Some pages include a referral link to Polyshares, a buyer of company data. If you request an offer through that link, DataBuyout may earn a fee. We only show the offer on pages where company data can have value at shutdown, every placement is labeled, and the link is marked as sponsored. Referral fees do not change what our guides say about filing steps, fees or alternatives. Full details are on our disclosure page.

Corrections
