Export Asana Project Data: Projects, Tasks and Comments
Here is how to export asana project for the whole company. Asana exports one project at a time from the project menu. Here's how to get every project out, and the full organization export if you're on Enterprise+.
Open any project, click the drop-down next to the project name, hover over Export/Print and pick CSV or JSON. That works one project at a time. Enterprise+ organizations can request a full organization export as a gzipped JSON file through the API.
Before you export Asana project data
| Method | What you get | Who can use it |
|---|---|---|
| Project export | One project as CSV or JSON | Any member with access to the project |
| Search view or My Tasks export | Tasks matching a search, as CSV | Any member |
| Organization export | The whole organization as gzipped JSON | Enterprise+ only, through a service account and the API |
JSON keeps more than CSV: comments, subtasks and story history come through in JSON, while CSV is closer to a flat task list. For record value, export JSON.
Step by step
01List every project
Before exporting, make a list of all active and archived projects across every team. Archived projects still hold years of history.
02Open the project menu
Open a project and click the drop-down arrow next to its title.
03Export as JSON
Hover over Export/Print and choose JSON. Repeat with CSV if you also want a spreadsheet version.
04Repeat for every project
Work through your list. For tasks that live outside projects, run an advanced search and export the search view.
05Enterprise+: request the organization export
A developer with a service account calls the organization export endpoint, waits for the job to finish (minutes to a few hours), then downloads the file. The download link is only valid for about an hour, so grab it as soon as it appears.
How to find the size of your Asana data
Asana doesn't show a single storage number. Count projects and tasks instead: the admin console lists projects per team, and an advanced search across your organization shows total tasks. Note how many years the team has used Asana and how much discussion happens in comments.
What a full Asana export is worth
AI companies license company records like this to train software agents on real work. Project history shows how work is planned, assigned and finished, with comments, due date changes and handoffs along the way. Years of active projects with real discussion are worth far more than empty task lists.
Buyers price on depth: years of continuous history with real discussion in it. A partial export or a single report is worth far less than the complete record.

Common problems
- Comments missing from CSV. Export JSON for the full story history.
- Too many projects to export by hand. Use the API to loop through projects, or the organization export on Enterprise+.
- Organization export link expired. The download URL lasts about an hour. Fetch a fresh one from the export job.
- Private projects missing. You can only export projects you can see. Have an admin add you, or run the export from an account with access.
Common questions
Can I export everything from Asana at once?
Only on Enterprise+, through the organization export API. On other plans you export project by project.
What format does Asana export to?
CSV or JSON for projects. The organization export is JSON in a gzip file.
Does an Asana CSV export include comments?
Not fully. Export JSON to keep comments and task history.
Should I export Asana before closing my business?
Yes. Once the subscription ends and the workspace is removed, project history is gone.
